The Super Zoom Edition
La residenza d’artista estiva di quest’anno va a Tamara Janes, un’artista della Svizzera orientale che vive a Berna. Durante lo studio di un mese, sperimenterà con un Superzoom per Smartphone e fotograferà oggetti e nature morte disposti e trovati nella Shedhalle stessa, ma anche a Frauenfeld.
Presenterà poi le fotografie risultanti su display a doppia faccia in formato A0. Con i display, originariamente concepiti per gli spazi pubblici, Janes riunisce spazi interni ed esterni. Nella Shedhalle di 340m2, questi diventeranno contemporaneamente sculture e supporti per le 72 stampe fotografiche create.
Super Zoom Edition, concepito appositamente per il capannone, fa parte di una serie di lavori in cui Tamara Janes esplora le condizioni delle immagini digitali. Così facendo, affronta il nostro attuale comportamento fotografico, il consumo non riflessivo di materiale fotografico ogni secondo e la ricerca del numero definitivo di pixel. “La nostra percezione e il nostro approccio alle immagini”, dice Janes, “è sempre più determinato dalla tecnologia e dagli algoritmi. Questo processo è allo stesso tempo contenuto di pensiero e superficie d’attrito per il mio lavoro”.
This year’s summer artist residency goes to Tamara Janes, an artist from Eastern Switzerland who lives in Bern. During the month-long studio, she will experiment with a Superzoom for Smartphone and photograph objects and still lifes arranged and found in the Shedhalle itself, but also in Frauenfeld.
She will then present the resulting photographs on double-sided displays in A0 format. With the displays, originally conceived for public spaces, Janes brings together indoor and outdoor spaces. In the 340m2 Shedhalle, they will simultaneously become sculptures and supports for the 72 photographic prints created.
Super Zoom Edition, conceived specifically for the Shed, is part of a series of works in which Tamara Janes explores the conditions of digital images. In doing so, she addresses our current photographic behaviour, the unreflective consumption of photographic material every second and the search for the ultimate number of pixels. “Our perception and approach to images”, says Janes, “is increasingly determined by technology and algorithms. This process is both thought content and frictional surface for my work”.
