Le opere della collezione MOCAK presentate nella mostra sono state ispirate dalle opere di altri artisti. Utilizzare le realizzazioni artistiche precedenti come punto di partenza per la propria arte ha una tradizione secolare. Nel Medioevo e nel Barocco, molti dipinti sono stati personalizzati da modelli grafici. A loro volta, gli artisti del Rinascimento e del Classicismo erano affascinati dall’antichità. Una caratteristica del XIX secolo fu l’emergere di neo-stili che miravano a ricreare l’estetica del passato. Il postmodernismo attinse a tutte le tendenze dell’arte e celebrò le strategie della citazione e del pastiche.
Nell’arte contemporanea, gli artisti utilizzano con entusiasmo schemi iconografici e soluzioni compositive preconfezionate, creano collage o filmati trovati. L’appropriazione avviene sia a livello concettuale che formale.
Le opere presentate alla mostra sono per lo più basate sulla pittura e la scultura, ma anche sulla letteratura e il cinema. Gli artisti attingono all’arte antica e al lavoro dei loro contemporanei. Scelgono opere significative ed entrano in dialogo con esse – sia esso critico, affermativo o, occasionalmente, umoristico. Reinterpretano opere letterarie e cinematografiche. Danno un taglio attuale a modelli iconografici stabiliti, come l’adorazione dei Magi o la crocifissione. Creano le proprie varianti di capolavori conosciuti.
Le opere selezionate forniscono uno sguardo su momenti specifici della storia dell’arte. Allo stesso tempo, grazie all’uso creativo di opere di altri artisti, le ravvivano, fornendo un pretesto per riflettere sul patrimonio culturale e sul ruolo dell’arte come strumento di interpretazione e comprensione della realtà.
Nel 2021 il MOCAK festeggia il decimo anniversario della sua apertura. Per l’occasione, abbiamo preparato delle mostre basate sulla Collezione. Uno degli obiettivi principali del Museo è quello di dimostrare al pubblico il merito dell’arte contemporanea; la Collezione è un veicolo chiave per raggiungere questo obiettivo. Vogliamo che il pubblico abbia l’opportunità di conoscere meglio le nostre collezioni e i temi che rappresentano, e di vedere opere mai esposte prima, comprese le nuove acquisizioni. Le mostre del giubileo mostreranno la diversità mediatica e tematica della nostra Collezione in continua espansione.
The works in the MOCAK Collection presented in the exhibition have been inspired by the works of other artists. Using earlier artistic achievements as a starting point for one’s own art has a centuries-old tradition. In the Middle Ages and Baroque, many paintings were customised from graphic templates. In turn, artists of the Renaissance and Classicism periods were fascinated by antiquity. A characteristic feature of the 19th century was the emergence of neo-styles that aimed to recreate the past aesthetics. Postmodernism drew on all trends in art and celebrated the strategies of quotation and pastiche.
In contemporary art, artists enthusiastically use ready-made iconographic schemes and compositional solutions, they create collages or found footage films. Appropriation takes place at both the conceptual and formal levels.
The works presented at the exhibition are most often based on painting and sculpture, but also on literature and film. The artists draw on old art and the work of their contemporaries. They choose meaningful works and enter into a dialogue with them – whether critical, affirmative, or, occasionally, humorous. They reinterpret literary and film works. They give a topical slant to established iconographic patterns, such as the adoration of the Magi or crucifixion. They create their own variants of well-known masterpieces.
The selected works provide an insight into specific moments in art history. At the same time, thanks to the creative use of other artists’ works, they liven it up, providing a pretext for reflection on cultural heritage and the role of art as a tool for interpreting and understanding reality.
In 2021 MOCAK is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its opening. For the occasion, we have prepared exhibitions based on the Collection. One of the Museum’s principal goals is to demonstrate to audiences the merit of contemporary art; the Collection is a key vehicle for achieving this. We want the public to have the opportunity to learn more about our collections and the issues they represent, and to see works never exhibited previously, including the new acquisitions. The jubilee exhibitions will show the media and thematic diversity of our ever-expanding Collection.
