Andrea Ravo Mattoni nasce a Varese (IT) nel 1981. Vive a Varese e lavora tra Italia e Svizzera.

Andrea Ravo Mattoni è principalmente noto per il suo progetto di recupero del Classicismo nel Contemporaneo. L’artista riproduce su grandi facciate i capolavori dei maestri della pittura classica, da Leonardo fino a Jean-Léon Gérôme, dimostrando grande virtuosismo nella traduzione dei dipinti con la tecnica dello spray.

“Il lavoro sul classico inizia nel 2016, è nato da un impulso, una volontà. Volevo riportare la grande pittura classica sulla strada, volevo farlo con gli spray, come quando dipingevo illegalmente muri e treni negli anni 90. Il medesimo impulso ed esigenza sono giunti nel 2022. Ho assistito all’avvento dell’Intelligenza Artificiale come un’onda di piena che avvolge tutto e tutti, ho creato immagini con lei, nutrendola con quelle stesse rappresentazioni classiche, ho ripreso gli spray sono tornato sulla strada, le ho dipinte.” - Andrea Ravo Mattoni

Nel 1995 inizia la sua avventura come writer con il nome Ravo, attività che prosegue fino agli inizi degli anni duemila, quando si iscrive all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, dove si dedica alla pittura a olio e all’acrilico su tela. In quegli anni fonda The Bag Art Factory insieme a Filippo Salerni, un collettivo di artisti con sede in Bovisa.
Nel 2016, invitato dal festival Urban Canvas di WG art, riproduce La cattura di Cristo di Caravaggio su un pilone del cavalcavia di fronte al centro commerciale Belforte, a Varese. Prende così il via il suo progetto più celebre: il “Recupero del Classicismo nel Contemporaneo”. Da allora riproduce a spray opere di grandi maestri della pittura classica sui muri delle città di tutta Europa e fino in Brasile.
Nel 2021 scopre I’Intelligenza Artificiale generativa e si apre quindi una nuova via nel suo percorso grazie a questa nuova entità generatrice di arte.

Andrea Ravo Mattoni was born in Varese, Italy, in 1981. He lives in Varese and works between Italy and Switzerland.

Andrea Ravo Mattoni is primarily known for his project of recovering Classicism in the Contemporary. The artist reproduces on large facades the masterpieces of classical painting masters, from Leonardo to Jean-Léon Gérôme, demonstrating great virtuosity in translating these paintings with spray techniques.

“The work on classical art began in 2016, born from an impulse, a desire. I wanted to bring great classical painting back to the streets. I wanted to do it with spray cans, just like when I painted illegal walls and trains in the ‘90s. The same impulse and need arose in 2022. I witnessed the advent of Artificial Intelligence like a full wave that engulfs everything and everyone. I created images with it, feeding it with those same classical representations. I picked up the spray cans again, went back to the streets, and painted them.” - Andrea Ravo Mattoni

In 1995, he began his journey as a writer under the name Ravo, an activity he pursued until the early 2000s, when he enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he focused on oil and acrylic painting on canvas. During those years, he co-founded The Bag Art Factory with Filippo Salerni, a collective of artists based in Bovisa.
In 2016, invited by the Urban Canvas festival organized by WG art, he reproduced Caravaggio's The Taking of Christ on a pillar of the overpass in front of the Belforte shopping center in Varese. This marked the beginning of his most famous project: Recupero del Classicismo nel Contemporaneo ("Recovering Classicism in the Contemporary"). Since then, he has used spray paint to reproduce works by great masters of classical painting on the walls of cities across Europe and even in Brazil.
In 2021, he discovered generative Artificial Intelligence, opening a new path in his artistic journey with this novel, art-generating entity.
