Marcos Lutyens nasce a Londra nel 1964. Vive e lavora a Los Angeles.
Marcos Lutyens was born in London, 1964. Lives and works in Los Angeles.
Interested from the beginning of his career in interdisciplinary works, he uses cognitive techniques such as hypnosis and technologies such as robotics and sensory tools to create performances, sculptures and installations. His designs are distinguished by the character of continuous experimentation and for their great variety, from surveys to work on air pollution, to the comparison between human and animal sensory perception with interaction between different species. Marcos Lutyens is seeking hidden aspects of daily life, generally invisible or overlooked by any observers, with which he is establishing a deeper dialogue in order to promote a different approach to the real and the environment. He developed research related to cognitive and subjective processes of the inner mind, especially through hypnosis, engaging in interesting experiments with Dr. V. S. Ramachandran, director of the Brain and Cognition at the University of California at San Diego, to explore the neurological pathways of the brain and observe the processes of synesthesia of mind. He has collaborated with Marcos Novak in the context of Education: the Alien Within, and Matt Mullican.
This constant drive for research led him to always work in a social dimension, dealing with specific cultures such as Muxhe, the Zapotec civilization in south-western Mexico in the project Bestiary, edited by Olga Margarita Davila.
He has worked in film production design and set design, particularly with the director and artist Bruno Aveillan. He has exhibited internationally, with an important recognition to dOCUMENTA (13) with Raimundas Malašauskas for Hypnotic Show curated by Carolyn Christov-Bagarkiev (now owned by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Brazil Inhotim), Museum of Absence, Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, MOCA in Los Angeles, the Royal Academy in the UK, LACMA, Centre Pompidou and at the Biennale of Architecture in Venice. He recently has performed at Artists Space, New York, Kunstverein Amsterdam and Kadist Art Foundation in Paris. In 2013 he participated in exhibitions of the highest level, a new experience at the MOCA in Los Angeles, the Belluard Bollwerk International Festival in Freiburg, the inauguration of the structure and the start of a new series of performances in Belo Horizonte, at the Institute of Contemporary Art Inhotim, the Rietvelt Academy in Amsterdam, the Museo del Barrio, NYC and the personal exhibition at Boccanera Gallery in Trento.
Among the solo shows Pushed at Chambers Fine Art in Beijing (2014) and Pulled at Galerie Alberta Pane in Paris (2014) and performance Electronic Ether at MAMbo Museum in Bologna (Smell - Festival dell’Olfatto, 2014). He realized a public performance at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Parid involving hypnosis, he presented Circatextian at thingWorld: International Triennial of New Media Art 2014 National Art Museum of China, 4thWall a performance and film at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the group show Rockaway! organized by MOMA PS1 in collaboration with the Honolulu Biennial. With the project "Neurathian Boatstrap", he did at the14th Istanbul Biennial: "A Theory of Thought Forms" drafted by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Istanbul, TR, 2015.
